HEMOPHILIA by : Joseph Campbell pd.1

Hemophilia- is a rare bleeding disorder in which your blood does not clot normally. The two forms of hemophilia are Hemophilia A which accounts for about 80% of all cases, is a deficiency in clotting factor VIII. and Hemophilia B which is a deficiency in clotting factor IX. Hemophilia is also called the Christmas Disease, because of a 10 year old with the disease whom researchers studied in 1952 in Oxford, England.

Hemophilia is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern. Hemophilia is located on the X- Chromosome, in the last megabase of the long arm on the x- chromosome.

The physical problems that are associated with hemophilia are excessive, uncontrollable bleeding. Symptoms of hemophilia are bruising, bleeding into a joint, bleeding into the muscles, and bleeding in the brain. People with hemophilia have symptoms that range from mild to severe, and they can not participate in certain activities like football, basketball, hocky, or wrestling because of the injuries that can be severe.

Hemophilia is treated by replacing the missing clotting factor in the blood, but is not curable. There are support groups for hemophiliacs around the world, and they can be contacted by emails, or phone calls.

hemophilia affects 1 in every 5,000 male babies
, there are about 17,000 people in this country with the disease.
